English Movie Club

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Movie Club on the 28th of November.
Our visitors were watching  and discussing  a 954 American Technicolor mystery thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by John Michael Hayes based on Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story "It Had to Be Murder". Originally released by Paramount Pictures, the film stars James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, and Raymond Burr. It was screened at the 1954 Venice Film Festival.
The film is considered by many filmgoers, critics, and scholars to be one of Hitchcock's best and one of the greatest films ever made. It received four Academy Award nominations and was ranked number 42 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies list and number 48 on the 10th-anniversary edition, and in 1997 was added to the United States National Film Registry in the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
This event was dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

English Class for Beginners

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Class for Beginners on the 28th of November. 

At the beginig of the lesson our students played game "5 words"
After that they repeated words and phrases relelated to the 
topic "Airport".
Also they read and translated short dialogues, studied different 
greetings words and  phrases.
Also they  watched and discussed few videos. 
Larysa was a leader and 15 people took part in this lesson.

English Mafia Party

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Mafia Party on the 27th of November with our good American friend and volunteer Thomas R.
If you like to play games and to practice English - this game is  for you!

English Class for Beginners

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Class for Beginners on the 27th of November. 

At the beginig of the lesson our students introduced themselve
аnd reapeted greetings words.
After that students reapeeted usage of possessive pronouns.
Also they had new topic "Demonstrative pronouns" and did a lot of 
grammar exercises related to the topic. 
Also they played "Five words".
Elena was a leader and 21  people took part in this lesson.

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Book Club with a Peace Corps volunteer Melanie Graham on the 26th of November.
Our participants discussed a book "The girl I hate" written by Mona Avad.

English Speaking Club

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club оn the 25th of November.
Together with our leader Margarita and discussed a topic "Work\Life Balance".
They discussed the following questions:
- What are the most importat things for you (very mpirtant, not important - flexible hours, a big salary, big bonuses for good work, a friendly boss etc.);
- Should companies motivate their staff? What kinds of motivation do the bosses need to do? (watching films together once a month? a nap room for employeers, boss writes thank you notes to employees)
- You are agree or disagre with : people are more motivated when they get a good salary; people work better under a lot of pressure, people who risk their life at work should get more money; it`s more enjoyable to work in a team then alone;
- Which of the statements are true for you? (I like working outside? I cannot stand sitting at a desk all day; I absolutly love travelling; I hate working under pressure; I am keen on learning news things etc);
- What are good things about your job?;
- What does work\life balance mean to you?
- What are some sings that your life is in balance? Out of balance?
Also our participantes watched and discussed 2 videos related to the topic.

Meeting with Luis Perea

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the meeting with an English Language Fellow  Luis Perea on the 22nd of November.

This event was relaited to the Thanksgiving Day.
Our visitors read and translated a short story about this important for americans holiday.
Also they knew many thanksgiving history facts, about traditions of celebration Thanksgiving day.
In addition our visitors had a short quiz about Thanksgiving day.
12 people took part in tnis event.








 

English Class for Kids

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Class for Kids on the 25th of November.
At the begining of the lesson children told about themselves and said each other hello. Than they learned new words and phrases on this topic "Clothes".
Also they played interesting games.
Masha and Veronica, students from Foreign Philology Department of Mykolaiv National Universsity named after V. Suchomlynskyi were leaders and 17 children took part in this lesson.
