On the 22nd of March at the Mykolaiv WoA there was the English Movie Club. We were watching the film which is called "The Help". Everyone was silent almost all the time while watching, as the stories of the maids working in the rich houses of the white people were so painful that no one could stay indifferent. We often felt like crying. Now we are inclined to believe that we cannot let similar stories ever repeat again! It is our task to be active and celebrate the unity!
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the 21st of March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid pass laws. Proclaiming the day in 1966, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.
