English Book Club!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Book Club with a Peace Corps volunteer Melanie Graham on the 22nd of January.
Our participants discussed a book "A Rose for Emily" by W. Faulkner ( 1930). This book discusses many dark themes that characterized the Old South. Death is an important theme because it thematically reflects the decaying of the South in the 1930s by relating it to Emily's need to cling to tradition by sleeping next to the corpse of Homer Barron. There is also a reference to the stagnant mindset of the Old South in their inability to initially accept Homer Barron, a Northerner, into their lives.
We had 8 participants among which there were 2 native speakers from the USA.
