English for Media Literacy. Week #3

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the second meeting on the 30th of April with a group of participants which have arleady finished the Unit#2 of English for Media Literacy on Coursera. 

This course is created by the University of Pennsylvania, and funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of English Language Programs. We watched and discussed some interesting videos  and have discussed about how Are Media Messages Created and Shared and what is Media Bias.

English Speaking Club!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club the оn the 29th of April.
The topic was "How marketing works" with our volunteer Julia.
In the beginning, the group was discussing how marketing affects customers and their choices. They had an interaction activity trying to figure out what helped the world-known brands sell their products and reviewed examples of best marketing compaigns.
15 people took part in this English Speaking Club.

Заняття з програмування для дітей Сode Club!

29 квітня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі "Вікно в Америку"  відбулося чергове заняття з програмування для дітей Сode Club.
Нашим лідером був cтудент факультету комп'ютерних   технологій  Чорноморського національного університету імені Петра Могили  Анатолій Дудка, під керівництвом якого пробували створювати Web-сайт.
На  занятті були присутні 10 дітей. 

English Class for Kids!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Class for Kids on the 29th of April.
At the begining of the lesson children told about themselves . After that they had a very interesting game-lesson and played a lot of  interesting games"Guestion-go-around" and 
"Name game". 
Nasiba was a leader and 15 children took part in this lesson.

English Class for Beginners!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Class for Beginners on the 26th of April. 

At the begining of the lesson our students told  how they spended
weekend and  checked their hometask. 
This lesson  was dedicated to the global ecology issues.

Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to providing the information and 
inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and
behavior about plastics. We started with the 

introductions of  environmental vocabulary and discussion of 
recycling posters.  
The second step was to review the solutions for plastic pollution – limitation of unnecessary 
packaging, plastic usage in road building and bricks manufacture, 
avoiding disposable cutlery and containers, etc. 
The group was impressed with the news about the discovery of an 
enzyme that degrades
plastic and may help to solve the problem. The topic was illustrated
with the  YouTube videos and discussed them.

Also they had a new topic "Travel Vocabulary" and practiced a lot.

Alex B. was our leader and  10 students took part in this class!

English Speaking Club for youth!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club for youth (not only) on the 26th of April!
Everyone who сame, presented and told about themselves and took part in a discussing "Did you have your style?","Why did we have style?", "How your image about public perception?" and "What do you think about the image?".
Our volunteer Nikita was leader and 10 participants took part in this event.

English Movie Club!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Movie Club on the 25th of April.

Our visitors were watching  and discussing the movie "Big"

 ( 1988).

This story about Josh Baskin would do anything to be big to hang out with his crush at the carnival. He finds a Zoltar machine, and he wishes to be big. After Zoltar tells him, "his wish is granted", Josh notices the machine is unplugged. He wakes up the next morning in an adult's body but he still has the same personality. With the help of his best friend, Billy, Josh learns how to act like a grown up. But as he gets a girlfriend and a fun job, he doesn't want to be a kid again. Will Josh stay big or become a 13 year old boy again?

English Mafia Party!

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Mafia Party on the 24th of April with our good American friend and volunteer Thomas R.
